DODOS! Uhm…They’re faces come off when they’re surprised. That’s funny to me. Also a fish guy. I might get more into this later.
Long and short of it: Protagonists(2) grow up on an island almost entirely inhabited by Dodo people. They aren’t Dodo people, and this has an effect on both of them in different ways, because Dodos were very gullible, trusting, and incapable. One of the characters embraces this(besides the incapable part) and he develops from there, while the other exploits this and is kind of a jerk.
So yes. That was cryptic and unnecessary. Thanks for reading!
Also: I’m adding some basic lazy color onto some of my posts now, so it’s something more to look at…I guess.
DA is a hassle…
I’m remembering why I stopped posting there. It’s just so… cumbersome to upload anything there.
Cleaned up the house today, so I’m trying to get over a chemical headache while posting some things. I keep bailing on all my plans for this blog, because of reasons.
I’m having kind of an artistic crisis right now. I’ve become complacent in my style and the things I’m comfortable drawing and I’m starting to realize a comic isn’t really within my abilities right now. And I’m kind of bored of my style and can’t make any decisions about the character designs. I’m only really having fun drawing monsters lately(which I still need to scan.) In my opinion, I’m really good at character design. I could go on designing new characters for an eternity, but those designs can wait. They’ll come when they need to. Right now I need to be spending time on learning how to apply all these designs and stories I have to SOMETHING. Be it, comics, animation(Which is my ultimate goal,) illustration. Whatever.
Anyway, I need to start working on some things. For example, I can’t draw people(or anything) facing to the right. I’ve always drawn everything facing to the left(I’m right handed, so I guess that’s how it naturally comes to me.) Another weird thing is that when I look at something I’ve drawn left-facing backwards(by putting the drawn side against light…) it looks REALLY OFF, which is disconcerting to me. Does it look off regularly and I just don’t see it? Or does it just not work well flipped? So yeah, that’s a big thing. Other issues include the ever-looming lack of architecture and landscape skills, poor color theory(in my opinion,) and…others…too. All of this is making me think I should take a break from posting anything, but…What have I been doing this whole time?! I’ll try to just post whatever it is I’m working on, good or bad. Gonna scan some monsters now.
So I dunno. I’m in a rut. I’ll try to keep you(whoever you are) posted…
Um.
I’ve been…busy. Lots of babysitting and things. But I’m making plans for this thing! …That I keep forgetting. and I’ll finish the pokemon thing(and try to keep doing it again.) I sort of overextended myself with the coloring and whatnot, and once I do that I pretty much quit. Also blame Reshiram’s freaky anatomy. White Kyurem is so much better(and I like Zekrom more than Black Kyurem. These sequels are perfect for me!)
Anyway, I’m going to be posting all the stuff I’ve put up here over on my deviantart(go there to see some old rubbish I’ve made.) Try to start using that again(gotta look through literally thousands of updates, and probably unwatch a ton of people.) So yeah, that’s a plan. Thinking about trying to at least post something textual daily. So that I’m, y’know, POSTING.
Also(if I could please get feedback on this) I haven’t been reblogging any of my likes for reference or anything cuz’ I feel like it’s distracting. Should I start a seperate blog for Inspiration and reference material? I’m not sure how difficult it’d be to access likes from this blog to reblog them there, but…Yeah that’s an idea I’m having.
Ideas for future talky ranty posts so I don’t forget: Games I’ve been playing, Nerdfighteria(a rant I feel weird about doing cuz’ it doesn’t really serve a purpose,) my preferred brands of sci-fi and fantasy, Story stuff(after I post more art for those things. I’m going to start making significantly less commentary on the designs and stuff I put up because I realize without any context, it doesn’t really matter at all.)
*Sigh*
Dwarves. Or at least that’s what I’m breaking down to call them now. They don’t have noses or beards or any of the general attributes of Fantasy Dwarves besides their size. I’ve been wrestling with other names like Pygmy and Imp, but for right now…DWARVES.
I still need to do a rant about my favored brand of fantasy(summation: not middle-earth style,) but the idea behind these dwarves is that there is still a large population of them that lives a tribal lifestyle. There’s a plot explanation for a broadening of them geographically and culturally so there are two groups of them: Secluded, tribal types, and Modern “Civilized” types. Both groups have a great connection to tattooing their bodies for many reasons. Some of the explanations are different between them, and one side might get them in entirely different places than others, but all in all, tattooing is a big thing for them. Which makes up for the pretty simple physical body designs they have. The tattoos are probably harder to come up with than most outfit ideas.
Top two guys are primary characters from the story. Lorcan and Hewitt. More about them later(that Lorcan isn’t even complete…) Next one is a character I’m thinking of featuring early on. Those horns aren’t attached, it’s just an accessory. Next two are just doodles(both urban dwarves. the second one looked like Mr. Satan from Dragonball, so I put some dragonball designs for his tattoos.) And the last one is a tribal Dwarve, particularly the tribe that lives in a dark cave region. Dwarves have tapetum lucidum in their eyes like cats so they can see in the dark. This is why they pretty much always squint in light(and until recently their eyes always looked completely closed unless they were in the dark.) They’re very adept in the dark and very agile. There skin can come in pretty much any color and it’s more durable than human skin(allowing infant tattooing and in general to not be a big deal.) Relative to their size, they’re pretty strong, being about as strong as humans on average. Because of their small hands, they’re very capable with intricate machinery and tools.
Etc etc etc. There are a handful of other races in the story, but the Dwarves are the most prevalent besides humans. I’d like to think not by too much, though. I’m trying to create a good balance of races amongst the relevant characters, so we’ll see how that goes…
I haven’t even introduced the true protagonist of this story yet. Maybe then, I’ll actually give the working title and basic plot XP. For now, this rant is long enough as it is. So, later…
I haven’t been posting…
Not even from my queue! It’s empty. I have stuff in my likes to reblog, but I want to put some scans in my queue first. I just need…words to describe stuff with. When I get around to formulating those words…yeah.
I’m just getting sick of regretting every post I make. I spend too much of my time in my head, so when it comes to typing things out, I emphasize the wrong aspects of my thoughts. I’ve thought about it all way too much, and I always include unnecessary bits and focus on bits that don’t really need the focus. And somehow I still leave stuff out. (I guess I could just reblog my own posts with additions…)
…BLAH POSTS LATER.
I just finished The Fault in Our Stars
I’ve never been so into a book before, but I’m not a reader so that’s hardly amazing I guess. I kind of dreaded finishing it. I found a pillows channel on youtube and listened to their discography backwards on the wii while going through the last “few” quickfire chapters and occasionally sketching or inking something around me on my bed. I tried to force myself to cry on multiple occasions while reading and it actually worked. I always thought I was a crier but I recently realized I’m just selfish. I can only seem to cry over myself and sometimes, fiction. But I wanted to read this book for some specific reasons that I might talk about later, because I wanted to have a physical reaction to this subject matter. So that sorta worked out(added this crying rant in last, it’s pretty awkward.) I finished right as the song “So long, Universe” started, and the videos stopped working after it ended. I thought that was ridiculously fitting.
…I think I might read it again now, if not after I make everyone I know read it. I was going to draft this and say more later, but this is what came to me so I’ll just post it. Gonna see if I can go to sleep, now that I’m all “heady.” Dftba, my tiny handful of readers…
Who’s that Pokemon?!
Unlike most Pokemon fans, I hold a particular sense of loathing for the entire First generation. I have a tendency of latching onto newer things over older things, not only because old things receive too much undeserved praise, but I genuinely feel like in some cases… People got BETTER at what they were doing, cuz’ that’s sorta what they should do. I think the first generation of Pokemon was not only a prototype, but Gamefreak didn’t know what they were getting into. They didn’t know it would boom and a coherent continuity would be necessary. Hence Cubone and Kangaskhan breeding making no sense and many of the designs just being…lacking. Don’t get me wrong though, I still love many first gen pkmn. I just like a lot more newer ones more. So I like redesigning Older pkmn and pkmn I just don’t like as much to fit my style and incorporating ideas that I think would work out more successfully had these pkmn been introduced later. I’ll probably post more of these(Along with fifty thousand Scrafty and Blaziken sketches cuz’ blehhh-I love them.)
This is Hypno by the way. I like the idea of a physically-tilted ghost/psychic type. The design is reminiscent of early representations of the Baku(before it became a plain tapir.)
I can’t draw non-living(or in-animated) things very well. Trees have only recently become less of a problem(although I never practice) and any sort of landscapes, buildings, or non-robotic vehicles etc have always been difficult for me. Largely because I refuse to practice and get distracted with all the ideas for LIVING characters and creatures I have.
But one of my best friends has an old rickety muscle car that I really like. It’s got charm. I drew a taxi right once before it, but my biggest issue with non-living objects is that I can’t imagine how to translate them properly into my style. I can’t decide what details to leave out and what details to scew and accentuate.
Anyway, I started practicing drawing her car, and I really like this style. I’ve done a little practice since, but I feel like this is how I see cars. (I feel a rant coming!) I’ve been around people who take a lot of interest in this stuff all my life, but I never really understood or took an interest in it. My dad worked on cars, my uncle does it, my stepdad did it and loves Beetles. I don’t really understand or like machines much. I’ve never known how to ride a bike(although now I’m sure I could learn, I just don’t have much interest in it,) and I don’t understand cars or how they work. So I feel like THIS is how I see cars. This is how they work to me. A big flashy body(I do really like the shape of muscle cars) with magic floating wheels that make it go! I dunno. I lost focus of this rant at some point. Hopefully it means something.
Doodly stuff. A robot design on the right, and a radio wave-manipulating Finless Porpoise.
It irritates me when asked about their favorite animals, people list off mundane, non-descript things like “tiger,” “cow,” or the worst offender “dog.” I could never even answer this question anymore, but I love nuanced, specific species of animals. I can spend hours reading about taxonomy and all the different animals there are in the world, and all I have to do is start with one of these non-descript animals and just click around. I feel like people are missing out on alot of interesting stuff out there by limiting their tastes and their interests to simple, popular animals. Anyway, this is a long rant to just say, Finless porpoises are really cute, and I don’t know why I had never heard of them until I clicked a random name in wikipedia. There are Fairy Armadillos, Giant Isopods, and Vampire Squids out there for everyone to discover and learn about…and YOU should! Cuz’ it’s cool.
…That reads like a really shitty PSA. Whatever. Stream-of-consciousness writing is how I do it. It’s my vice. That mess is staying!
